MURRAY CITY AND HAMLET HOMES BREAK GROUND ON BIRKHILL AT FIRECLAY COMMUNITY IN MURRAY CITY
Community is first mixed-use, TOD within 97-acre redevelopment plan
Murray City, Utah (November 27,2007) –
Murray City and Hamlet Homes broke ground today on a mixed-use, transit-oriented (TOD) community, Birkhill at Fireclay, located at Fireclay Avenue (4295 South) and Main Street in Murray. VIP officials from Murray City, the Murray Chamber of Commerce, Hamlet Homes and UTA grabbed shovels, pickaxes and a backhoe for this ceremonial event.
“Birkhill at Fireclay is the first mixed-use community to be developed within Murray City’s visionary, 97-acre RDA district,” said Michael Brodsky, CEO of Hamlet Homes. “Birkhill is the epitome of a well-planned, attractively designed urban neighborhood where residential, commercial and retail services co-exist with light rail services to create a truly walkable TOD community.” Located in the heart of Murray City’s Fireclay District, Birkhill provides an exciting, environmentally and economically sound alternative to suburban sprawl and will provide homeowners, retailers and businesses the opportunity to enjoy a dynamic place in which to live, work and play. When completed, the 30-acre Birkhill community will contain more than 330 residential units, including townhomes and condos, and 250,000 square-feet of commercial space that will combine retail and office uses. Hamlet is investing an estimated $150 million in the project. “Hamlet Homes has redeveloped some of Murray City’s most-blighted industrial land into attractive urban communities,” said Murray City Mayor Dan Snarr. “Birkhill at Fireclay will be the pinnacle of an exciting walkable community and Murray City considers itsef very fortunate to have Hamlet Homes as an urban development partner. Birkhill at Fireclay will feature charming Federal-and Georgbian-style architectural design with stone-and-brick exteriors, similar to those in eastern communities like Boston and Philadephia, along with tree-lined sidewalk and street meridians. The community will also feature UTOPIA Community MetroNet™’s high-speed fiber optic technology, providing residents with advanced voice, video and internet comunications. Through its partnership with UTOPIA, Birkhill at Fireclay’s Homeowners’ Association has contracted to provide homebuyers wth the most-advanced, high-speed internet and digital television through MSTAR.NET. The first building in Birhkhill at Fireclay is scheduled for completion by August 2008. To learn more about the community, contact Hamlet Homes at (801) 281-2223.
