HAMLET HOMES RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S QUALITY GROWTH AWARD
Hamlet’s Birkhill at Fireclay recognized as a model of quality urban development and community spirit
MURRAY, UTAH (April 21, 2009) – Hamlet Homes’ vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented community (TOD), Birkhill at Fireclay in the heart of Murray City, was honored today as one of eight recipients of the Governor’s Quality Growth Awards. In its eighth year, the awards program is sponsored by Envision Utah and the Utah Quality Growth Commission. Awards were presented by Governor Jon Huntsman and Alan Matheson, executive director of Envision Utah. “Utah’s future will reflect the collective impact of today’s development decisions,” said Matheson. “With the Quality Growth Award winners as models, the future looks bright. They demonstrate that development can enhance our communities and succeed in the market.” Hamlet’s Birkhill at Fireclay, located at 43rd South and Main Street in Murray City, is a 22-acre mixed-use, transit-oriented community in the city’s 97-acre redevelopment area known as the Fireclay District. Birkhill was conceived by Hamlet CEO, Michael Brodsky, in conjunction with Murray City officials as they developed a 2003 General Plan committed to stimulating economic growth through the development of walkable, sustainable and vibrant urban communities along the Wasatch Front. Developed adjacent to the Fireclay TRAX Station, the Birkhill community incorporates LEED Neighborhood Development criteria for density, proximity to public transportation, infill development, and the incorporation of neighborhood parks. The inviting residential neighborhood features classically designed townhomes, condos, and ample opportunities for retail shops, restaurants and everyday services and business. Tree-lined streets and street meridians, sidewalk cafes and beautifully landscaped parks are all part of the design that creates a special sense of place. “Hamlet Homes is honored to receive this recognition from the Governor’s Office, Envision Utah and the Utah Quality Growth Commission,” said Brodsky. “Birkhill at Fireclay reflects the combined expertise and vision of Hamlet Homes, Murray City officials and community leaders. It is truly the epitome of a well-planned, attractively designed urban neighborhood.”
