Hamlet Homes Celebrates 30 Years Serving Homebuyers

Hamlet Homes was founded in 1995, so this year marks 30 years of our proud history serving homebuyers in Utah. In those 30 years, we have delivered more than 4,500 brand new homes to happy homebuyers and families. Our company has grown to being a Top 25 builder in Northern Utah for annual home sales, but we take more pride in being one of the best in the nation in terms of customer service and customer experience. This is demonstrated by 5 consecutive years of winning the Customer Insight HOME award for best customer experience among builders in the western United States.

We recognize that being one of the oldest homebuilders in Utah is only cause for pride if the quality of our homes remains exceptional and our Hamlet Homes customers continue to tell us that they are having great customer experiences, despite the inevitable challenges that come in the new home construction process. We consistently have scores above 90% on overall satisfaction, and our scores continue to improve most years as our team continually raises the bar to deliver an even better experience.

Doing residential home new construction in Utah is our specialty. It has been our focus, our history, our legacy since 1995. We build single-family and townhomes with house plans that have been refined over those many years to include the things that homebuyers want most: highly functional and efficient spaces, beautiful exteriors, tons of natural light, and well-designed flow through the homes.

We also expanded to Southeastern Idaho in recent years, with our first Hamlet Homes Idaho homebuyers moving into their homes in 2023 and receiving the same great customer experience and outstanding quality. We now have four projects in Idaho Falls, Iona, Rigby, and Rexburg, Idaho.

In addition to our long Hamlet Homes history, building high quality homes and providing great customer experiences, we have also been honored with Best of State for eight years and recognized as a Best Company to Work For five years in a row. We have many employees who were born after our company was founded in 1995, but they all understand and have embraced the culture of Hamlet Homes to do the right thing for our customers, our partners and our employees. It is important to us that our employees and our trade partners enjoy their jobs and take pride in what they do. Without that, customers would not have the great homes and outcomes that they do.

As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to many events in 2025 that will honor our 30-year journey and the incredible homeowners, employees, and partners who have been part of it. The women of Hamlet Homes just completed a Thirty-Day, Two-Unit renovation in Phase II at The Lifestart Village.
The mission of the Family Support Center’s LifeStart Village is to move single parents with children from dependency to self-sufficiency. In FSC’s LifeStart Village, single parents and their children move from homelessness or near homelessness into safe, stable housing where they develop the necessary skills to create a stable, nurturing environment. In the dorm-like Phase I, and under the direction of a full time director, the parents learn to become self-sufficient. They receive Life Focus training, parent education, financial budgeting education, are assisted in completing their GED and acquiring and maintaining adequate employment. Upon completion of Phase I, parents have the opportunity to graduate to a self-sufficient rental town home or cottage, Phase II.

This Project was completed by a mostly all-female crew made up of Hamlet Homes’ executives, sales team, office staff and production team. Women helping women.

“We were seeking a project that we as the women at Hamlet Homes could do together and when this one came up, we did not hesitate to take it on. I had no idea what this project would entail when I first brought this to the ladies at our company. It took on a life of its own.” Stated Tami Ostmark, VP of Marketing/Owner of Hamlet Homes. “We thought we were doing something that would make an impact for the families here at Lifestart and The Family Support Center, but what really happened was, that this project made an impact on us. It brought us together, it taught us new skills, it created friendships and it taught us that life is bigger than ourselves, it’s what can happen when some really badass women come together to make a difference – we can do just about anything. I am grateful for so many of our trade partners who donated their time and materials to help us get this project done. They are part of our Hamlet Family and we so thankful for them.” Ostmark Continued.

The project is part of the Homeaid Utah family of projects. HomeAid Utah is a local affiliate of HomeAid. They attack the reality of homelessness with a unique and collaborative approach. Through housing development and community engagement, their mission is to help those experiencing homelessness to build new lives.

Ostmark finished with, “I am so proud of our team and I hope each and everyone of them know how thankful I am for them. I know I speak for all of the partners at Hamlet Homes, that moments like these define us and who we are as a company and we hope that we have made even a small impact on the great big work of all of the people here at The Lifestart Village, The Family Support Center, Homeaid and our friends at Professional Women in Building (PWB).”

The entryway to the great City of Iona’s City Hall hasn’t been touched in decades and is in dire need of help. This Thursday, Hamlet Homes will completely renovate the entryway, donating more than $50,000 in services to beautify and improve it. Hamlet and its partners are not just organizing and paying for the remodel; more than 25 of their team members are leaving their duties and spending the day selflessly; giving to the community of Iona.

They will arrive early in the morning on a big bus, reminiscent of the famous ‘move that bus’ line from television. The renovation will include a complete replacement of the front steps, replacing flooring, painting walls, adding wall coverings and fresh new furniture. Even the old cork board with tacks will be updated to a state-of-the-art digital screen, so Iona-ites can more easily learn of upcoming events and announcements.

But why in the world is Hamlet doing all this? They haven’t even broken ground on their first home in Idaho. Tami Ostmark, VP of Marketing & Owner had this to say, “Hamlet believes that we are bigger than the homes we build. We don’t just want to build in a community, we want to build up a community. When we learned there was a need at City Hall, we wanted to help. There’s no better place to start than Iona City Hall.”

“We are very excited about developing new beautiful homes in Iona”, continued Jon Southern, COO & Owner of Hamlet. “In 10 years, it would be great if we all recall ‘that day in May’ when Hamlet came to town to remodel City Hall and how we are still a major part of the community. We are excited to grow with the people of Iona and the many communities in Idaho.”

‘I am so excited about Thursday”, said Keri West, Iona City Clerk/Treasurer. “We actually just took all the pictures down today. We are really excited that Hamlet is going to freshen up the first impression of the city. I’m also really impressed with how well they have listened to our requests. They have been great to work with and I’m excited that our community is going to have a wonderful new home builder.”

Iona Mayor Dan Gubler concluded with; “I’m grateful to Hamlet Homes for stepping up and it’s fantastic. There’s been a lot of positive response to it. So often developers want to get in and get out. No one has ever volunteered to help with infrastructure. That’s good. We are grateful.”

Females drive the majority of the home purchasing decisions, yet almost every building company in America is led and owned by men. It’s no secret that construction, like many businesses, is a ‘man’s world’. Yet that statistic is still quite shocking and transparently true. Hamlet Homes stands out in naming Tami Ostmark to an ownership role.

While the employment rate is only 11% for women in construction (compared to the national average of 47%) and less than 3% in leadership roles, the gender pay gap is the most attractive in the building industry at 94.3% of what men earn (significantly greater than the 81.5% national average); according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Barry Gittleman; Hamlets President & CEO said, “We’re very excited that Tami has been selected to join the Ownership team. It’s always been notable that in this industry, there are just not that many females in leadership. We’re proud to change that.”

John Peterson, who also became an owner said; “I have such respect for Tami. She changed our culture when she came into the company. We now stand for inclusion, hard work and share a strong common vision. She’s the glue that brought our culture together.”

Tami Ostmark said: “I’m excited about this opportunity and feel like this is my life’s work. My history in business has been in positions that society has considered ‘a man’s role’. I feel like I’ve had to work harder to prove myself. The majority of people just see men when thinking of home building. Females are typically driving the home buying, design and architecture decisions for their home. It’s more important than ever to empower females so they know they can do absolutely anything in this industry.”

Nate Kingdon, joining John and Tami in his recent announcement to the ownership team, followed by saying; “Tami is also helping pave the path for future females in the industry to see that these things ARE possible. I’m excited to be a part of that. It’s important for women in my life to have those kind of role models to look up to.”

Jennie Tanner, President of the PWB (Professional Women in Building) had this to say: “I think that Tami being named to ownership is an ah-ha moment for women that work in construction and don’t feel they can move up to a leadership role. I think her becoming an Owner is an amazing opportunity for her to show other women it CAN be done and kudos to Hamlet for seeing her talent.”

Three new Owners at Hamlet Homes have been selected to join the current four Owners at Hamlet Homes: making Hamlet’s ownership team seven. The three new owners at Hamlet Homes are Tami Ostmark (VP of Marketing), John Peterson (VP Construction) and Nate Kingdon (Sales Manager/Principal Broker). The previous four owners at Hamlet Homes are Barry Gittleman (President & CEO), Elliot Jenkins (CFO), Jon Southern (COO) and Phil Mosher (VP of Sales).

Barry Gittleman; Hamlet’s President & CEO said, “We’re looking forward to the future of Hamlet Homes as we add three additional owners to our already talented team. Tami, John and Nate have provided great leadership to Hamlet Homes over the years. Hamlet Homes was founded in 1995. Hamlet transitioned ownership from the founder in 2017 to the senior leadership team of Barry, Elliott, Jon and Phil. As of January 1st, 2022, the new ownership team is officially seven strong leaders. The addition of Tami, John and Nate, makes this the first time since 2017 that they added owners at Hamlet Homes.

For all the right reasons, Hamlet Homes was recognized as The 2022 Utah National Housing Quality Award© Bronze Medal winner, sponsored by Pro Builder Media. The process in which this award was won, was amongst the most intense internal audits a company can go through – and not just as a homebuilder.

The Utah National Housing Quality Awards (NHQ) are a self-examination of the interworkings, processes, and procedures of a Homebuilder in which eight categories of the company are audited for opportunities for improvement and to highlight areas which are considered industry best practice.

Throughout this process, Hamlet Homes leadership and some of its team members examined each of the eight areas: Leadership, Strategic Planning, Performance Management, Customer Satisfaction, Human Resources, Construction Quality, Trade Relations and Business Results.

Each group identified areas which could use improvement through process management, analytics, communication, or new innovative ideas. In addition, they also realized that there was a lot that Hamlet is already doing well – in fact, setting industry standards considered best practices in many areas.

The application and examination process lasted a couple of months before the final submission. Once that submission was complete, they would have to wait just over a month to hear that the review committee moved them to the next level of the application which was a live “Judges Visit”. Four extremely qualified judges, made up of current and former homebuilding executives, came to Hamlet Homes to examine their business practices, employees and trade partners in person, concluding that Hamlet was already at high levels.

“This process was not easy, but it was well worth the effort. We did not enter into this process hoping for a medal or an award, although now that we have one it is a great reward, but more to gain perspective on where our company performance is compared to other homebuilders.

Just like you might have an outside consulting firm do an audit on your company, we instead invested the time into this self-audit and found that we came out of this with more than we could have expected, both to improve upon our business practices, but also as a culture building exercise.” said Barry Gittleman, Hamlet Homes President/CEO/Owner

Hamlet Homes Hire additions and promotions of more Great People.

With big growth goals ahead, Hamlet is increasing its GREAT team of people to prepare for that growth. With Utah’s strong housing market, the demand on new homes right now, there is no better time than to promote our great people into roles designed for the future and to bring on some new fresh talent that we believe will rise to the challenge of this ever-changing housing market.

Brady McDermott was promoted to HOMEBUILDING SUPERVISOR earlier this year. Brady was born in good ole Sandy, Utah and is the second of seven children. While in high school, he kept to his basic sports of football and track. Corner and Safety were his favorite positions in football, and he favored hurdles for track.

Though he loved these sports, his real passion for sports comes in while he is snowmobiling, skiing, and mountain biking. When he is not doing these scary sports (as his wife would say), he can be found tinkering with his hands – building with wood or upgrading his truck. While all of these bring Brady joy, his real happiness lies within his family. Brady graduated from UVU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. When he graduated, he decided to leave his family company to follow a different path and is loving his position at Hamlet Homes. Brady is a hardworking, trustworthy, friendly guy and can always be found with a smile on his face.

Andy Martineau was recently promoted to SENIOR DRAFTSMAN. Andy has a lifelong ambition to continually climb upward toward reputable achievements. High standards he sets for himself develop from the accomplishments of his foremost role models. Born in Laramie, Wyoming as the fifth of six children, Andy was fortunate to have both the secure encouragement of a large family and a competitive atmosphere.

His competitive nature brings out his desire to always improve his performance and be identified as unfailing. Having a background forged from working alongside lawyers, cowboys, auto mechanics, carpenters, and engineers, he has developed brilliant appreciation toward personal interests and goals. Andy’s dedicated pursuit and vast experiences brought him directly to his ideal career. Andy is extremely pleased with his responsibilities and opportunities at Hamlet Homes. Working every day to build Great Homes, provide Great Experiences, and associate with Great People is exactly in line with his ambitious climb to be an accomplished professional.

Paige Anderson was brought on as a SALES ASSISTANT. Paige’s love for construction and adventure stemmed from her childhood exploring the backyard orchard with neighborhood friends. She was often found with a hammer in hand repairing the treehouse or venturing, with curiosity, to forbidden wonders such as the nearby canal. She continues to have an ongoing desire to explore the wonders of the world by traveling and discovering new sites, cultures and people. You could say Paige’s curiosity developed into a passion for learning and love for a good challenge! Paige built on this passion and in a short time received her bachelor’s from the University of Utah in psychology and human development.

She jumped right into the Social Work field where she worked directly with troubled youth and families on developing skills to improve relationships and cope with life challenges. Paige continues to utilize these skills by caring for her clients during the new home journey. Paige can’t help but make building a new home a red-carpet experience. Just a few years after receiving her real estate license, she discovered and fell in love with the new construction industry! She absolutely loves seeing communities grow and turn to place where lifelong memories are made. Above all she loves her clients and sharing the excitement of a new home with them!

Lisa Spencer was brought on as a Sales Assistant. Lisa was born and raised in SLC, UT. At a young age her mother introduced her to skiing, as it’s a pre-requisite for growing up in Utah with “The Greatest Snow on Earth’! She was a natural and later in life worked and lived up at Alta, Utah. Having the slopes as a front yard, she was hooked! Meeting people from all over the world, she found the diversity of cultures to be implemental in forming an open mind to all walks of life and adventures.

At 18 she moved with friends to West Hollywood, CA. While there she was introduced to the culinary world and fell in love with the fast-paced energy of professional kitchens, which began a lengthy cooking career. After trying on many hats in the kitchen, she found that pastry was her true love. Working her way up the ranks in LA, then on to Seattle and back to SLC. Looking for a career change she decided to jump into Real Estate. Her passion for customer experience easily translated to her new chosen profession. Although she has been with Hamlet for only a short period, she has found her tribe. Working with a diverse group of talent, she has found “Home”.

New in our Production Department include valuable team members; Tyson Hussey, Carter Petersen and Siaosi Sekona. All three have already made great efforts and contributed to Hamlet’s overall customer experience and great quality of homes.

Hamlet Homes Selected as one of Utah Business ‘Best Companies to Work’ once again in 2021.
Utah Business conducts company surveys and talks to thousands of employees in Utah to determine which companies are the best to work for, each year.

The surveys are completely anonymous, allowing for truth-telling from employees. After hearing their honest thoughts and seeing which companies stepped it up during the pandemic, Utah Business finds the best of the best. Hamlet Homes was recognized in the Micro Companies Category along a dozen others here in Utah. Micro-Companies have 1-50 employees and are not only doing things right but pushing the limits on innovation and creativity in culture.

Hamlet Homes awarded BEST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE WINNER at the 11^th Annual Customer Insights HOME AWARDS this past week. The event was virtual this year but is typically held in person and was once again awarded the Utah Business Best of State 2021 award for Real Estate Development. This comes after receiving last year’s Best of State Award for the 6^th time, making this seven total, and in addition to winning Utah’s Best Company to Work For and being ranked on “Housing Giants 2020 List” by Professional Builder.

This award is always important to Hamlet Homes, as it is a rigorous process in which to submit for and is reviewed by a group of highly regarded business people in Utah to select the winners. Hamlet Homes is committed to excelling in the areas in which this award reviews which include areas like Innovation, Customer Experience and Community Service.

Hamlet Homes hires is happy to announce the promotions of more Great People.
Despite a global pandemic, Utah’s Economy and Housing Market is strong. Hamlet Homes has not slowed down and in order to provide a Great Customer Experience, the company has added and promoted Great People to its leadership team to make sure it can follow through on that promise.

Tyler Mudrow was promoted to CONTROLLER earlier this year.

Tyler was brought on as the Assistant Controller. Tyler has been in the accounting finance field for just over 9 years. He worked as a staff accountant, senior accountant, and assistant controller for Major Drilling prior to coming to Hamlet Homes. Tyler graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degrees in accounting and later pursued and graduated with a master degree in business administration (MBA). He have always had a thing for numbers and likes to see how all the numbers come together to make a business run and what makes a business be successful.

Jordan Person was promoted to a SALES REPRESENTITIVE over the summer.

Jordan started as a Sales Assistant and quickly impressed with his outgoing personality and willingness to learn. Prior to joining Hamlet Homes as a Sales Representative in September of 2020, he previously worked in residential/commercial real estate and property management. He found his passion in helping others navigate their way to their goals and dreams of homeownership and business while ensuring they have a great experience in the process.

Scott Maxwell was recently promoted to our HOMEBUILDING MANAGER.

Scott has risen through the ranks from a Homebuilding Assistant to Homebuilding Supervisor and now the Homebuilding Manager. He has shown the dedication, attention to detail and leadership that is required for this role. His passion is in building and remodeling homes which comes in handy as he does that daily with Hamlet. He accomplishes this dream as he is one of the few and the proud Hamlet Homes Homebuilding Supervisors. He enjoys all aspects of his job and the opportunity to work in such a fun atmosphere and to be a part of a fast-growing company.

Jordan Allen was brought on as a HOMEBUILDING ASSISTANT.

Jordan began his professional path in the environment of marketing. When he realized his need for more natural lighting, he began his journey into the world of building. He started framing small production homes and worked his way into building large custom homes in Park City, UT. Now wanting to manage the building process from beginning to end, he has joined the Hamlet Team.

Becca Lui is filling a newly created position of FINANCE/LAND ANALYST.

Becca attended the University of Utah where she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She received her first accounting experience working in the accounting department at a local credit union. A couple of years later, Becca decided on a career change and landed a job in the tax operations department at Morgan Stanley. At the beginning of 2020, Becca became a part time real estate agent. After 9 grueling tax seasons at Morgan Stanley, Becca jumped when presented with the opportunity at Hamlet Homes.

She was excited to take on a role that was a combination of the finance and real estate worlds. Not only did Morgan Stanley provide Becca a wealth of knowledge but also this is where she met her husband, John. John and Becca were married in the middle of the pandemic on 10/10/2020. Becca selected this wedding date so John would never forget their anniversary! Together, they enjoy investing, traveling, eating out, and spending time with friends/family.

Vanessa Hatch was brought on as our OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR.

Vanessa started at Hamlet Homes in May of 2021 as the Front Office Administrator. The Home Building industry is a new adventure for her. Before Hamlet Homes, she worked in the vet and animal care industry as a Vet Tech and Receptionist. Vanessa has a passion for all animals, her house is a bit of a zoo. She owns two cattle dogs, five ball pythons, and a couple of fish. She also loves almost anything outdoors such as camping, river rafting, cliff jumping, and taking her dogs hiking. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah with one younger sister.

Jordan Paulk was also brough on as a HOMEBUILDING ASSISTANT. Jordan has always loved his country, and at 14 years old decided that for his Eagle Scout Project he would help the troops by sending them candy he collected. With his shipments, the troops were able to befriend citizens and share a bit of home. By doing this, he drew the attention of news stations who came to interview him for his efforts. He has always been very determined and chose to go to Colorado Mesa University to study Geophysics.

And being the entrepreneur he is, he also began to study hemp and its market within Utah. Over the next few years, he assisted in growing and harvesting crop fields in Colorado and Utah. Jordan is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending his spare time in the mountains camping, fishing, hiking, golfing, snowboarding, and hunting. He’s a talented bow hunter which drove him to attend bow competitions across Utah winning many gold medals. Nowadays Jordan has taken an interest in aviation and helicopters. There are no boundaries for Jordan, if he wants to do something he will find a way.

Whitney Hatch is our new SOCIAL MEDIA & MARKETING ASSISTANT

Whitney joined Hamlet Homes in 2021. Born and raised in Murray, Utah as the youngest of 6 kids she thrived, but she now must share the attention with her 11 nieces and nephews. Though it is difficult, she wouldn’t trade spending time with those rascals and the satisfaction of telling them what to do. Whitney started singing and dancing at 5 years old and hasn’t stopped. She graduated from BYU with a BFA in Music Dance Theatre.

While there, she was on the BYU Young Ambassadors and toured to South Africa and Zimbabwe. That’s when she got the travel bug. Now, you can find her googling “cheap flights from SLC” on a weekly basis. After college, she lived her traveling dreams by working on cruise ships as a singer and performing with the US National Tour of the musical “Spamalot”. Now that she’s back living in Utah, she continues to perform locally whenever she can. Whitney is also a certified Yoga instructor and loves to teach and take classes to feel more “Zen”.

Jake McKenna was brought on as a WARRANTY SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Jake was born and raised in Southern California and shares a birthday with Disneyland – July 17th. It’s fitting since he has been to Disneyland more than 100 times. Jake grew up the middle child of three brothers and earned his eagle badge when he was 18. He has worked in a variety of fields – security, handyman services, loss prevention, and even operating a mechanical bull at county fairs.

Along with these jobs, he developed a unique set of skills that helped him to be the strong employee he is today. After their second child was born, Jake’s family decided to move to Utah to look for new opportunities. They purchased their first home in 2020, where Jake’s fix-it skills came in handy.
